I stared at the screen of my phone, disbelief washing over me as I processed the words of the caller on the other end of the line. It was Lisa, the woman who had been dating my soon-to-be ex-husband, Michael, and she sounded panicked.
“Hello? Is this Emily?” Lisa’s voice trembled with emotion.
“Yes, this is Emily,” I replied, my heart pounding in my chest. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Michael,” she blurted out, her words coming out in a rush. “He’s been lying to me about everything. He’s not who I thought he was.”
I frowned, confusion mingling with a sense of satisfaction. “What do you mean?”
“He told me he was divorced and that he was ready to start a family with me,” Lisa explained, her voice growing shaky. “But I just found out that he’s still married to you, and… and I’m pregnant.”
My breath caught in my throat as her words sank in. Pregnant? Michael was going to be a father again, and this time, it wasn’t with me. Despite the pain of his betrayal, a part of me couldn’t help but feel a sense of vindication. After all the lies and deceit, it seemed that karma had finally caught up to him.
“I’m so sorry, Emily,” Lisa continued, her voice breaking. “I had no idea he was still married. I don’t know what to do.”
A wave of sympathy washed over me as I listened to her distress. Despite everything, I couldn’t bear to see another woman suffer because of Michael’s lies.
“Listen, Lisa,” I said, trying to sound reassuring. “You don’t deserve to be treated like this. I’ll help you figure out what to do next.”
As we talked, I couldn’t shake the feeling of déjà vu. It seemed like only yesterday that I had been in Lisa’s shoes, blindsided by Michael’s betrayal. But now, as I offered her support and guidance, I realized that I had come a long way since then.
In the end, I may have been the one who was cheated on, but it was Michael who had lost everything—his marriage, his credibility, and now, the trust of another woman who had believed his lies. And as I hung up the phone, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of closure. My plan had worked, and now, it was time to move on and leave Michael behind for good.
